Media Advisory/REMINDER: Unions to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Canadian Labour Congress at Friday Gala

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 25, 2006) - The country's labour leadership will gather in the National Capital this Friday to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Labour Congress.

Some 500 union leaders, politicians and friends of labour will celebrate a half-century of struggle and success at an October 27 evening gala in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau.

The joyful event, long on music and video and short on speeches, will be co-hosted by two well-known celebrities - musician, writer and broadcaster Jian Ghomeshi and singer-songwriter Michelle Campagne of the musical group Hart Rouge. The evening also features a number of other musical performers, interspersed with tributes and send-ups of the leading personalities who have led the Canadian Labour Congress in recent years.

Media are welcome to cover the sold-out gala. One-on-one interviews with current and past CLC leaders can be arranged in advance or at the event by contacting the undersigned.

The Canadian Labour Congress, the national voice of the labour movement, represents 3.2 million Canadian workers. The CLC brings together Canada's national and international unions along with the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 135 district labour councils.
