Media Advisory: Revocation of Order of Canada membership of T. Sher Singh

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 6, 2009) - Notice was published in the Canada Gazette on March 28, 2009, that the appointment of T. Sher Singh to the Order of Canada was terminated in accordance with the Constitution of the Order of Canada. According to the policy for termination, revocation is considered when the conduct of the person:

(i) constitutes a significant departure from generally-recognized standards of public behaviour which is seen to undermine the credibility, integrity or relevance of the Order, or detracts from the original grounds upon which the appointment was based; or

(ii) has been subject to official sanction, such as a fine or a reprimand, by an adjudicating body, professional association or other organization.

The termination of Mr. Singh's appointment to the Order of Canada is pursuant to the Law Society of Upper Canada finding Mr. Singh guilty of professional misconduct and revoking his licence to practise law.

The appointment was terminated on December 10, 2008. Mr. Singh was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada on October 18, 2001.
