Media Advisory: Senators set to host Bell Hockey Talks Youth Mental Health in support of D.I.F.D. presented by Ferguslea Properties Limited

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 29, 2014) - The Ottawa Senators (@senators) and Ottawa Senators Foundation (@sensfoundation) will host Hockey Talks on Thursday, Jan. 30, when the club hosts the Tampa Bay Lightning. For a fourth consecutive season, Senators Sports & Entertainment has partnered with Do It For Daron (D.I.F.D.) in an effort to inspire conversations and educate fans on the topic of youth mental health while raising funds for the one in five Ontarians under the age of 17 who suffer from a mental health disorder.

The goal of Hockey Talks is to bring mental health issues to the forefront of the public realm and alleviate misconceptions and the stigma often associated with mental illness. In collaboration with each Canadian NHL club, the Hockey Talks message has an extensive reach and connects with citizens of all ages and backgrounds.

Mary Deacon, Chair of Bell Let's Talk will take part in a ceremonial puck drop prior to Thursday's game alongside Stephanie Richardson, and Caroline Mulock - a local mental health champion.

Prior to and during Thursday's game, Senators wives and girlfriends will join volunteers from Bell in addition to Ottawa Senators Foundation president and CEO Danielle Robinson in an effort to raise funds through the sale of Hockey Talks and D.I.F.D.- themed bracelets ($5), pins ($5), pucks ($5) and mittens ($15).

Upon entering Canadian Tire Centre, those in attendance will receive a Bell Hockey Talks Youth Mental Health pamphlet and a donation envelope, which can be submitted during the in-game collection or mailed to the Sens Foundation. Fans can also donate $5 by text-messaging DIFD to 45678. Fans are presently being encouraged to join the mental health conversation by sharing personal experiences or messages of support via social media with the hashtag #hockeytalks.
