Media Advisory: Senators Sports & Entertainment issues advisory to fans on third-party tickets

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 21, 2010) - Following a number of ticket issues at last night's sold-out Taylor Swift concert at Scotiabank Place, Senators Sports & Entertainment is advising fans of the risks of purchasing through unauthorized third-party ticket vendors.

"We had a large number of issues with both fraudulent and invalid tickets to the Taylor Swift concert at Scotiabank Place last night," said Tom Gillis, general manager of Capital Tickets. "We continue to encourage fans to purchase all tickets through authorized vendors. Those who purchase tickets from third-party vendors are doing so at their own risk.

"Third-party vendors often offer guarantees for tickets, but these are for money refunds, as these vendors cannot guarantee the tickets they sell are valid for any event. Only those tickets purchased through authorized vendors are guaranteed seats," added Gillis.

For events at Scotiabank Place, including hockey games, concerts and shows, Capital Tickets is the lone authorized vendor of tickets.

"Tickets purchased outside of Capital Tickets cannot be guaranteed as valid until the bar codes are scanned on the night of the event," noted Gillis. "Often times, duplicate tickets are sold by third-party vendors. There is unfortunately no way we can detect a problem until the night of the event."
