Media Advisory: Sens encouraging fans to "Fill the Net For Kids" in support of the Ottawa Snowsuit Fund

Goaltender Alex Auld kick starts Senators Snowsuit Drive with Nov. 27 donation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2011) - The Ottawa Senators today announced that goaltender Alex Auld has joined forces with the Snowsuit Fund, an Ottawa-based charity which raises monies for the purchase and distribution of snowsuits for children in need throughout the Ottawa community.

Auld, who is in his second season with the Senators, will officially launch this year's campaign by donating 80 winter jackets to the fund. The Senators are encouraging fans "Fill the Net for Kids" by donating a new or gently used snowsuit at the team's next home game, which takes place against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday at 5 p.m. Fans helping to "Fill the Net" will receive a voucher for a free Senators' 20th anniversary puck redeemable at any of the three Sens Store locations.

Members of the Senators Loud Crowd will be on hand to accept donations on Sunday, when hockey nets will be set up as snowsuit receptacles at the Gate 1 entrance of Scotiabank Place. Senators fans unable to attend the game are encouraged to drop their item (or make a financial donation) at any Ottawa-area Canadian Tire location.

Photo and media opportunity: Auld will be joined by Senators teammate Chris Phillips, who serves as an honorary chairperson for the Snowsuit Fund, along with Krista Kealey, member of the Snowsuit Fund Board of Directors and Claude L'Heureux from Canadian Tire as they pose in front of a hockey net to officially signal the launch of this year's drive.

When and where: 10:40 a.m. (prior to the Senators practice), Tuesday Nov. 22, on the Scotiabank ice surface at the Bell Sensplex, 1565 Maple Grove Road, Kanata.

Now in its 30th year of operation, the Ottawa Snowsuit Fund strives to meet the challenge of keeping underprivileged community youth warm during the winter. More than 15,000 snowsuits were distributed during last year's campaign.

Following Sunday's game, the collected snowsuits will be delivered to the Snowsuit Fund.
