HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 6, 2016) - Members of CUPE Local 108, Halifax Regional Municipality outdoor workers, and their supporters will hold a rally on September 6 to demand that their employer return to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair contract.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 5:00 p.m.
WHERE: Halifax City Hall
WHO: CUPE Local 108 President Mark Cunningham, CUPE Nova Scotia President
Nan McFadgen, NS Federation of Labour President Danny Cavanagh, and NS NDP

Public services are threatened by a possible lockout of the approximately 350 outdoor municipal workers by the employer. On August 10, after only a day and a half of sessions in conciliation, the City presented a final offer to the union and walked away from the bargaining table. Since then, CUPE 108 representatives have requested new dates for negotiations from the employer. Each time, the City has refused.

CUPE 108, Halifax Civic Workers Union, are outside workers employed by the Halifax Regional Municipality. There are over 300 members in Unit 1 including labourers, facility maintainers, gardeners, utility workers, store persons, traffic sign and marking technicians, painters, building trades persons, fleet trades persons, engine room operators, chief plant operators, and plant operators including arena, rink, and pool.
