Media Advisory: SIU Swearing-in Ceremony

Attention: News Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 15, 2005) - Media members are invited to attend the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) as 4 new investigators are sworn-in on Friday during a ceremony presided by Mr. Justice John Sutherland.

The swearing-in ceremony follows a week of orientation training at the SIU office. Joining the SIU as a full-time investigator is Oliver Gordon, who has 15 years of experience working as an investigator with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). Also joining the team as as-needed investigators are:

· Ian Hollingworth, who has 30 years of experience with the Greater Manchester Police Force specializing in covert surveillance operations and training;
· Oleksandr (Alex) Kravchenko, who has 12 years of experience working in military and police forces in the Ukraine and is fluent in 5 languages;
· Patrick Lilley, who comes with 14 years of experience with the Waterloo Regional Police Service where he worked in detective and plainclothes duties.

Distinguished guests from the Ministry of the Attorney General, the policing community, and various community groups have also been invited to attend the ceremony. The media will have an opportunity to take pictures and speak with the SIU Director and new personnel immediately following the ceremony.
