Media Advisory: Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council to announce winners of its Impact Awards and Gold Medal


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 22, 2016) - Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Media representatives are invited to attend the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada's (SSHRC) 2016 Impact Awards ceremony which will include an announcement of this year's the recipient of the prestigious Gold Medal - SSHRC's highest honour worth $100,000 in research money. The ceremony will also announce the recipients of the Talent, Insight, Connection and Partnership awards, each receiving $50,000 in research money.

The annual Impact Awards recognize outstanding researchers and celebrate their achievements in research, research training, outreach activities, and making their results available to others. This year's emcee is Andrew Potter, director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada, and former editor of the Ottawa Citizen.

Greg Fergus, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, on behalf of the Honourable Kristy Duncan, Minister of Science, will present the Gold Medal alongside Ted Hewitt, SSHRC's president.
