Media Advisory/SSHRC: Canada's Top Researchers to be Recognized

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2008) - Canada's top researchers in the humanities and social sciences will be recognized at Sagacitas-the sixth annual awards ceremony of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The prizes to be awarded are among the Canadian research community's highest honours.

Media representatives are invited to attend as we present this year's SSHRC Gold Medal for Achievement in Research to an outstanding Canadian whose dedication, leadership and originality of thought has advanced understanding and made significant contributions to Canada's cultural and intellectual life. The SSHRC Aurora Prize, Postdoctoral Prize and William E. Taylor Fellowship will also be awarded to young researchers engaged in exciting and innovative work.

SSHRC is an independent federal government agency that funds university-based research and graduate training through national peer-review competitions.
