Media Advisory: The Penelopiad opens the door to a discussion on women and leadership with the Governor General

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 21, 2007) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will participate in a roundtable discussion at Rideau Hall about women and leadership, particularly in relation to the performing arts, with prominent women from the business and arts communities as well as young women emerging as future leaders. The discussion will aim to explore the following questions: What can and should be done by women of influence as mentors and role models to help the next generation of women? How can women's excellence in the arts, the workplace, and in society be recognized and promoted? How do we define success?

The event, which will take place on September 30, 2007, at 2 p.m., coincides with the exclusive North American engagement of The Penelopiad, a new play by Margaret Atwood, based on her book of the same name, and presented in a landmark theatre event by the National Arts Centre English Theatre in association with The Royal Shakespeare Company (UK). The Penelopiad, features an all-female cast of seven Canadian and six UK-based actresses, and a mostly female creative team. Panellists for the roundtable discussion will include the Governor General, Gail Asper from the Asper Foundation and philanthropist and social entrepreneur Zita Cobb.
