Media Advisory-Toronto Eaton Centre Remains Open on Good Friday for First Time

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 8, 2009) - Due to a recent by-law revision by the City of Toronto, for the first time, the Toronto Eaton Centre has been granted the ability to remain open for business on Good Friday, April 10, 2009.

With the full support of the Downtown Toronto Business Improvement Association all stores will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

"We are extremely pleased that our retailers have the opportunity to open on Good Friday," said Susan Allen, General Manager, Toronto Eaton Centre. "Our data from the 2009 Family Day shows a 26 per cent increase in traffic compared to 2008, so we believe there is a growing appetite for holiday shopping."

The Toronto Eaton Centre's official tourist designation enables the mall to stay open on Good Friday. It is one of a few shopping locations in the GTA that will be allowed to open. Please visit for a full listing of the Centre's retailers.

"Given Toronto's diverse multicultural population and tourists visiting the city there are many that would view this as an opportunity shop or earn additional income, particularly during these difficult economic times," says Allen. "This presents an opportunity for our retailers and their employees at a time that many other employers may be cutting hours or cutting staff."

Stretching more than two full city blocks in the heart of the downtown core, The Toronto Eaton Centre is Canada's best-known retail shopping destination attracting approximately 50 million visitors every year. Toronto Eaton Centre is owned and managed by Cadillac Fairview, one of North America's largest investors, owners and managers of commercial real estate.
