Media Advisory: TTC and Toronto Fire Services to Conduct Emergency Simulation

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 29, 2006) - The Toronto Transit Commission, along with Toronto Fire Services, will conduct an exercise to test emergency procedures on Thursday, November 30, 2006, between 9:30 a.m. and 12 noon.

The exercise will take place at the TTC Keele subway yard, located between Dundas West and Keele stations. White non-toxic theatrical smoke will be used to simulate real smoke.

The purpose of the exercise is to train all Toronto Fire Services Districts in dealing with incidents in subway tunnels. In order to train all personnel, 20 simulations will be held each year.

The exercise will involve up to 30 participants in roles such as TTC Supervisors, Safety Officers, Controllers and Evaluators.

Key elements in the exercise include testing and evaluating:

- TTC's and Toronto Fire Services Radio Communications System.

- Specific subway rescue equipment.

- Evacuation procedures.

- Co-ordination with Toronto Fire Services.

The simulation will not affect regular subway service and operations.

This event is not open to the news media. Please post this news release in your newsroom for reference in case you receive calls from the public during future simulations.
