Media Advisory/UPDATED: Governor General to Visit Thetford Mines, Where She First Arrived in Canada in 1968

Reminder: Governor General's activities in Quebec City - September 17 and 18, 2007

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 18, 2007) - Their Excellencies, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Monsieur Jean-Daniel Lafond, are continuing their stay Quebec City on September 17 and 18, 2007. On Wednesday, September 19, 2007, the Governor General will visit Thetford Mines, Quebec, where she will be greeted by His Worship Luc Bertholdt, Mayor of Thetford Mines, and will visit students at the Cegep de Thetford.

The following is an itinerary of the Governor General's activities.

Wednesday, September 19-Thetford Mines

10:30 a.m.

Arrival at Thetford Mines City Hall

His Worship welcomes Her Excellency.

11:15 a.m.

Meeting with City Council

Both the mayor and the Governor General will say a few words.

Private meeting with the mayor and residents of Thetford Mines

Lunch hosted by the mayor and attended by residents who represent today's Thetford Mines.


2 p.m.

Visit to Cegep de Thetford

Discussion with students at the Cegep de Thetford on the theme of "Living Together." There are over 60 students from Reunion attending the Cegep de Thetford this year. The discussion will focus on setting down roots, an openness to the world and the benefits of such exchanges to the health of our communities. These international students came to Quebec as a result of a co-operative agreement between the province's ministere de l'Immigration et des Communautes culturelles and the Conseil regional de l'Ile-de-la-Reunion.
