MEDIA ADVISORY: VANCOUVER -- Public Skin Cancer Screening at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre on Saturday, July 9th as Part of the Canadian Dermatologist Association's Sun Awareness Program

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - July 04, 2016) - Organized as part of the Canadian Dermatology Association's Sun Awareness Program, Vancouver dermatologists and residents will be hosting a free public skin cancer screening clinic at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre. This will educate individuals on the importance of early detection and prevention of all skin cancers and demonstrate how to conduct an at home self-exam.

Why: To help generate awareness about the importance of early detection by conducting
regular at-home self-examinations.

Background:

  • Skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Canadians. It is also the most common cancer in the world.
  • It is estimated that in 2015 6,800 Canadians were diagnosed with melanoma.
  • Up to 70% of all melanomas are first identified by the patient themselves (53%) or close family members (17%).
