Media Advisory: Vancouver, Will You Play Hockey for Food?

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 7, 2011) - Richard Loat, Victor Lo and Jonathan Buyco are on a 17-day road trip of a lifetime. The trio from B.C. is driving from Newfoundland to B.C. this summer, stopping in 13 cities along the way, and playing ball hockey to collect donations for local food banks.

The public is invited to bring their hockey stick and play in organized drop-in ball hockey games in each city. While there is no charge to play, participants and spectators are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation. Volunteers from the local food bank will be on site to collected donations.

Five Hole for Food's goal in 2011 was to collect the equivalent of 20,000 pounds of food. After 11 stops, the team has brought in more than 30,000 pounds with Victoria and Vancouver left on the schedule.

Photo opportunity: London Drugs is a major sponsor and is delivering three pallets of food on site.

(Note: Richard Loat is a West Vancouver resident, Victor Lo lives in Vancouver, and Jonathan Buyco resides in New Westminster.)
