TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 25, 2013) -

What: Michael Palin to receive Canada's highest medal in geography.
When: June 27th, 2013 at 6:25 p.m.
Where: Royal Conservatory Theatre, 273 Bloor Street W.
Who: Michael Palin, Comedian, Adventurer and past-President of the Royal Geographic Society

Michael Palin likes geography. He's seen our planet's highest mountains in Nepal, trekked across the Sahara desert, visited active volcanoes in Russia, cruised down the Amazon River through the jungle, drifted in a hot-air balloon over the Serengeti in Africa, and explored many of the world's great cities. As a member of the legendary British comedy troupe Monty Python, he used his quick wit to make us laugh at lumberjacks, the Spanish Inquisition and a dead parrot. Now he uses humour to help connect with the people he meets as he travels. It seems humour is internationally understood and enjoyed by everyone.

Michael Palin will be in Toronto to receive The Royal Canadian Geographical Society's (RCGS) Gold Medal, Canada's highest honour in geography for his contribution to geographical literacy. In his 30 minute acceptance speech he will talk about his adventures around the world and give them some excellent reasons about why knowing a little geography makes us better citizens. Sounds heavy but not when you have Michael Palin delivering the message.

The audience will have the opportunity to ask Palin questions will also be available after the ceremony to sign his most recent book on Brazil.
