Media Advisory/Veterans Affairs Canada: Vimy Vigil and National Ceremony of Remembrance Announcement

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 5, 2007) - In conjunction with the overseas events in France to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge a commemorative lighting presentation and a Remembrance and Wreath - Laying ceremony will be held in Ottawa this weekend.

Event: Vimy Vigil
Date: April 8, 2007
Time: 7:30 p.m. (EDT)
Location: National War Memorial, corner of Elgin and Wellington

Between dusk and dawn the names of the 3,598 Canadians, who gave their lives during the Battle of Vimy Ridge, will be illuminated on the National War Memorial, as well as images of those who fought in the Battle. Royal Galipeau, MP for Ottawa-Orleans, Canadian actor, R.H. Thomson, Veterans, the Canadian Celtic Choir and students will participate in a 30-minute ceremony at 7:30 p.m. to commence the Vigil.
