A Festive Celebration at 8 p.m. With Maxim Martin at the Esplanade at Place Des Arts in Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 30, 2012) - To mark the fifth anniversary of Earth Hour, one of the largest environmental movements of its kind, WWF-Canada invites Quebecers to a fun-filled, family celebration at the Esplanade at Place des Arts, March 31st, at 8 p.m. Special guests include- WWF Earth Hour Ambassador Maxim Martin; Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, M. Pierre Arcand; and the Montreal-based pop band, Chinatown, who will perform an acoustic set.

While the buildings downtown turn off their lights as a sign of support for action on climate change, candles will be distributed to participants. The City of Montreal and many Montreal companies have already agreed to turn off their lights. Among them include: Bell Centre, Place des Arts, Holt Renfrew, the Complexe Les Ailes, the province's casinos and Loto-Quebec, Hydro Quebec, Desjardins, Molson-Coors, Fairmount Hotels, Intact Assurance and MusiMax. Throughout Quebec, dozens of municipalities, businesses and hundreds of thousands of individuals have pledged to celebrate Earth Hour.
Even our very own Habs appear in a video asking people to take part in this very important public mobilization campaign:

In 2011, more than 5,200 cities in 135 countries across the world turned off their lights for Earth Hour. This year, we invite citizens to visit the Esplanade at Place des Arts to mark the event.
