Media Advisory: YWCA of Calgary Hosts Inaugural 'WHYWHISPER' Gala

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 10, 2011) -

WHAT: The YWCA of Calgary is encouraging Calgarians to speak up and speak out for the city's most vulnerable through its inaugural 'WHYWHISPER' Gala. The evening will unfold with a cocktail reception followed by dinner in which audience members will hear from the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean and honorary chairs Ann McCaig and W. Brett Wilson.

Following the speeches, the YWCA of Calgary will host a "Share Drive" asking audience members to commit to purchasing shares which represent "Intervention," "Empowerment" and "Leadership" in the amounts of $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000 respectively.

WHY: The Gala is intended to help draw attention to issues around domestic violence, homelessness and poverty, and to celebrate Calgarians who choose to stand up and speak out for those who have no voice. More specifically, the Gala is being held to raise funds to enable the YWCA of Calgary to be able to intervene when circumstances dictate; to empower women with new skills sets; and provide leadership opportunities to break the cycle in which they are vulnerable.
