Media Alert: Centre for Excellence in Emergency Preparedness-Canadian Health Disaster Preparedness

DUNDAS, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 14, 2011) - One month ago, an earthquake, tsunami and ensuing nuclear crisis in Japan highlighted the fact that even developed nations can suffer catastrophic events. Reviews of our health-system disaster readiness have shown Canadians are at high risk for poor outcomes to similar events.

Despite federal awareness of this problem and despite available and affordable solutions there has been no activity at the national level. In preparation for the federal election Members of Parliament and all party leaders received a briefing paper on Canadian health system preparedness, drafted by the Centre for Excellence in Emergency Preparedness (CEEP). A copy of this paper is available at http://www.ceep.ca/briefing_paper1.html.

About Centre for Excellence in Emergency Preparedness: CEEP is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organisation. CEEP has gathered together experts in health and disaster response from across Canada, and is dedicated to improving Canadian Health system readiness.
