MEDIA ALERT: Data Domain to Present at Storage Decisions San Francisco 2008

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - November 17, 2008) - Data Domain (NASDAQ: DDUP), the leading provider of deduplication storage systems, today announced that Data Domain Principal Technology Evangelist Rich Colbert will present at this week's Storage Decisions San Francisco 2008 conference at the Hilton San Francisco. In his presentation, Colbert examines the subject of "Data Protection Beyond the VTL."

Session Title: "Data Protection Beyond the VTL"

Session: "Tech in Action" session

Data Domain Speaker: Rich Colbert, Principal Technology Evangelist, Data Domain

Date/Time/Location: November 17, 2008, 2:45pm-3:15pm PST, Breakout #1 (Imperial A)

Session Description: The introduction of Virtual Tape Libraries (commonly known as VTLs) provided some initial relief to large enterprises for whom the machinations of direct-to-tape backup had simply become unfeasible. But with massive amounts disk still required to cache backups of increasing magnitude and tape as a final destination, VTLs left as many problems unsolved as they addressed. Today, data deduplication, or "dedupe," is causing a paradigm shift in the way enterprises of all sizes address data protection, with a promise of "use less disk, yet store more data." In this session, Rich Colbert, Principal Technology Evangelist of Data Domain explores a number of topics related to current application of these two data protection approaches: What are the problems that VTL did not solve that dedupe does? Why VTL is merely an interface in the dedupe world. Why the problems solved by the VTL are becoming non-issues. What goes wrong when a company takes an existing VTL product and tries to "bolt-on" dedupe on the backend?
