Media Alert: Firefighters to Lobby Parliament Over Firefighter Deaths

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 11, 2008) - More than 600 firefighters are expected to attend a lobby of parliament tomorrow (Wednesday 12 November.) Many of them will be in uniform. They are calling on MPs to take action to stem the rising tide of fatalities on duty in the fire and rescue service.

They will meet at 11 a.m. at Central Hall, Westminster, Storey's Gate, London SW1H 9NH, and will be addressed by Fire Brigades Union general secretary Matt Wrack. Mr. Wrack's speech will be available in advance, and copies will be available on the day.

They will also hear from MPs John McDonnell and Andrew Dismore, TUC deputy general secretary Frances O'Grady, and barrister Martin Seaward.

After the speeches, the firefighters will cross the road to the Houses of Parliament to lobby their individual MPs.

The lobby comes two days after the Fire Brigades Union published a report showing that firefighter deaths have increased in recent years.
