The Anita Borg Institute, (ABI), a non-profit organization focused on advancing women in computing, will be hosting its annual Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) of Women in Computing Conference.

  • 8,000 attendees, representing 67 different countries and 925 organizations.
  • Speakers include: Shafi Goldwasser, RSA Professor at MIT and A. M. Turing Award Winner; Maria Klawe, President of Harvey Mudd College; Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft; and Arati Prabhakar, Director at DARPA.

WHAT:
The 2014 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is the largest conference for women technologists to come together and provide inspiration, connections, and guidance toward building careers in technology. Sessions include presentations on current research in fields such as cyber security, cloud computing, and data science; career workshops for women technologists at pivotal stages in early and mid-career; and panels on organizational change and cultivating support for underrepresented groups in technology. Conference presenters are leaders in their respective fields, with the best in industry, academia, and government represented. The event offers networking and mentoring opportunities for women at all levels of their career, including a career fair exhibiting job opportunities from top companies around the world.

  • Demand for tickets was unprecedented. The sold-out event will bring out a total of 8,000 attendees, a year-over-year increase of 68%. 3,200 attendees come from academia and representing 441 colleges and universities, including 297 students from the school participating in the BRAID initiative recently announced by Hillary Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative and let jointly by ABI and Harvey Mudd College. 4,800 attendees represent industry, government and non-profit organizations. The Anita Borg Institute had to close down registration with over 1,000 people on the wait list.
  • The theme is "Everywhere. Everyone." Emphasizing the ubiquity of technology in society today, and the need for diverse teams to help innovate and build the technology of the future.
  • ABI Career Fair provides attendees with the opportunity to meet with leading high tech companies, research laboratories, government agencies and universities.
