Media Alert: Toronto Hydro Energy Services Introduces New Research Project to Identify the Next Generation of City Lighting

On-site tour of testing facility

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 30, 2007) -

Toronto Hydro Energy Services Street Lighting (TH Energy Street Lighting) is launching the first phase of ALAMP (Adaptive Lighting Asset Management Program), a year-long research project aimed at reviewing different lighting technologies for use in Toronto. ALAMP will be testing these lighting systems based on several criteria including efficiency and suitable lighting conditions.

Street lighting experts will showcase and demonstrate the different lighting technologies being considered.

The last upgrade to the street lighting system was done by the City of Toronto in 1993. Since then, street lighting technology has undergone significant improvements. To ensure the best lighting quality, while providing energy efficiency to light our city's streets, TH Energy Street Lighting has begun a research project to assess different lighting applications.

With the days getting shorter, and the nights getting darker, the way our streets are lit can make a big difference. With winter weather conditions approaching, street lighting plays a big role in promoting public safety.
