Media Conference: Privatized P3 Hospital Threat in Kingston-Economist, Health Coalition

KINGSTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2012) -

When: Friday, October 26, 1:30
Where: Councillors' Lounge, Kingston City Hall, 3rd floor

The Kingston Health Coalition is holding a media conference on the threat to Kingston of rebuilding Providence Continuing Care's St. Mary's Hospital and psychiatric facility as a public-private-partnership (P3).

Presenting Information on what Kingston can expect from a privatized P3 scheme:

  • Sue Hotte, Chair of the Niagara Health Coalition, site of a new P3 hospital;
  • David MacDonald, Senior Economist, Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives and an expert on P3s;
  • Natalie Mehra, Director, Ontario Health Coalition, uncovered details on the $200 million extra cost of the Brampton P3 hospital

The Kingston project could waste 100 million health care dollars and reduce service. The government has refused to release any of the background documents justifying the decision to use the P3 approach.

The media conference will be followed at 5:30 by a Town Hall meeting in the Kingston-Frontenac Public Library, 130 Johnson Street, Delahey Room.
