Media Markt and Saturn Support International Expansion and Real-Time Business Using TIBCO Software

Europe's Leading Electronic Retail Chain Implements a Highly Scalable, Flexible, Expandable and Decentralised Infrastructure

MUNICH, GERMANY--(Marketwire - November 4, 2008) - Europe and Germany's leading electronic retail chain, the Media-Saturn Group, is supporting the international expansion of its brands Media Markt and Saturn with TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks™ ESB software. This allows the company to analyse and control its operations in all countries in real time. Media-Saturn Group found that when they compared TIBCO's (NASDAQ: TIBX) solution to other ESB offerings, TIBCO had the best combination of scalability, flexibility, reliability and footprint for their needs. The electronic retail chain is now able to manage and centrally monitor the ever-growing data flow in its decentralized IT infrastructure, incurring only low administration costs. It is also able to ensure that services, applications and business processes are provided without interruption.

Gerd Herzog, managing director at Media-Saturn IT Services, said, "Each individual outlet must have an independent IT landscape to ensure that processes can operate without interruption. Furthermore, only a business oriented view of data flow in real time can guarantee effective operational control. During our evaluation process, it quickly became apparent that TIBCO Software was the appropriate provider that fulfilled these requirements and was in a position to support the growth of our company."

Media Markt and Saturn expect to follow a dynamic expansion strategy. Even though each individual outlet has its own IT landscape for interruption-free operation, their available administration capacity is quite low. Reliability, low maintenance costs and the need for a streamlined installation with no additional hardware resources, were all key factors in the evaluation process. The company's headquarters need to be able to process data volumes a thousand times larger than those of the individual outlets, so the ESB software needed to be highly scalable. It also had to permit central monitoring and modular installation for service-oriented architecture (SOA), business process management (BPM) and master data management (MDM). The recently implemented ESB software from TIBCO is running successfully at Media-Saturn IT Services and the individual electronic outlets.

"The strategic goals of Media Markt and Saturn can only be achieved if a real-time business model is applied," explained Fabio Pulidori, senior vice president, EMEA at TIBCO Software. "The software had to free resources quickly and provide a basis for service orientation, process control and a scalable and comprehensive infrastructure for data exchange and data management across the company. TIBCO's portfolio is tried and tested, modular and expandable, and exactly meets Media Markt and Saturn's requirements."
