Media/Photo Advisory: Hundreds of Mississauga School Children Gather to Donate and Learn About Affected Children of Myanmar Cyclone

Eleven-year-old Bilaal Rajan, UNICEF Child Ambassador, will issue 'Me and You for the Children of Myanmar' challenge to all Canadian children

Schools of the Peel District School Board, serving more than 150,000 children, are raising funds starting on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, in support of UNICEF Canada's emergency appeal for victims of the Myanmar cyclone. Various types of fundraising activities will be undertaken by schools such as toonie Tuesdays, bake sales and pledge drives. Hundreds of Havenwood Public School children will gather at an assembly to hear from UNICEF Canada representatives and 11-year-old Bilaal Rajan, UNICEF Canada Child Ambassador, about the affected children of the Myanmar Cyclone and how they can make a huge difference with their donated toonies. Caroline Keenan of UNICEF Canada will also show the children some of the life saving items that UNICEF provides to those affected by disasters such as the Myanmar cyclone.

Bilaal will also launch a national fundraising challenge he is calling Me and You for the Children of Myanmar to his peers across the country to help the affected children of the Myanmar cyclone. Bilaal's previous UNICEF emergency fundraising challenge to Canadian children raised millions of dollars for suffering children in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami disaster in the South Asia region in 2004.
