Media Release/BCLC Welcomes Ombudsman's Review

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 18, 2006) - British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) welcomes an independent investigation by the Ombudsman into the fairness of the administrative and procedural processes pertaining to BCLC games.

"While we are confident that the right prizes are being paid to the rightful owners of winning tickets, we look forward to working with the Ombudsman to reassure the public and our players of the integrity of our games and systems," said Vic Poleschuk, BCLC President and CEO. "For more than 20 years we have worked hard to earn our players' trust. We will do whatever is necessary to protect that trust."

The security and integrity of BCLC games is paramount and of the utmost importance. It is expected that this third-party investigation will provide further assurance to the general public that BCLC games are fair, the correct prizes are paid to the rightful ticket holder, and that the player experience is a positive one.

As the regulator of BC's gaming industry, Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch of the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General has recently completed an investigation to confirm the integrity of BCLC's prize payout and validation policies and procedures.

Going forward, BCLC looks forward to supporting and working with the office of the Ombudsman, and to provide whatever assistance and information which may be required to conduct a thorough review.

BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation reporting to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through a Board of Directors. Its mission is to offer responsible gaming entertainment, generating income for the public good.
