Media Release/British Columbia Lottery Corporation: B.C. Resident Places 5th in Three Card Poker Finals

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 5, 2006) - Renato Delos Santos of Vancouver, B.C., placed fifth in the final round of Shufflemaster's Three Card Poker National Championships at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, on Nov. 30.

There were 177 registered players in the three-day tournament that began Nov. 28. Delos Santos, the only B.C. player to make it to the final round, won $7,000 (U.S.).

"I'm very excited!" exclaimed Delos Santos. "This is a first-time experience for me. It's my first time in a tournament and I can't believe this. It's amazing!"

Being a novice in the tournament circuit did not deter this poker player from bringing his A-game to the Championships.

Delos Santos, a 51-year-old civil engineer from Vancouver, was an avid fan of classic table games such as Baccarat and Poker even before he immigrated to Canada from the Philippines in 2000.

"If I had won the tournament, I planned to invest in my own construction company and help other new immigrants in B.C.," said Delos Santos.

"The Shufflemaster National Championships is a major event with 177 players from all over North America," said Brian Lynch, BCLC Vice-President of Casino Gaming. "We're pleased that our promotion gave Mr. Santos an opportunity to attend the Championships and congratulate him on making it to the final round. Our goal is to exceed our players' expectations and provide the best gaming experience in Western Canada."

Delos Santos is among 14 winners to win a seat to the Championships through British Columbia Lottery Corporation's (BCLC) first provincewide Three Card Poker promotion.

He won entry to the tournament when he made the minimum Pair Plus Bet and received a Mini-Royal (Ace-King-Queen suited) while playing Three Card Poker at Gateway Casino Burnaby during the promotion period.

BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation reporting to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through a Board of Directors. Its mission is to offer responsible gaming entertainment, generating income for the public good.
