Media Release/British Columbia Lottery Corporation: BC Residents Spend "Great Day with Gretzky!"

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 12, 2006) - Today, the winners of the SportsFunder "Great Day with Gretzky" prize enjoyed a terrific time with Wayne Gretzky in Vancouver. The five winners were allowed to bring a guest each and some chose to share the once-in-a-lifetime experience with their children.

"This is the biggest experiential prize ever offered by BCLC and we're very thankful for Wayne Gretzky's support," said Jim Lightbody, BCLC's Vice-President of Lottery Gaming. "Through SportsFunder lottery games we're able to offer great new prizes; and players are supporting amateur sports in B.C. every time they play."

The five lucky winners, Gordon Klassen of Sicamous; Murray Field of Pemberton; Gordon Wells of Roberts Creek, Mike Irwin of Nanoose Bay and Ernestine Malyk of Creston, started the day by gearing up with new skates and sticks before taking to the ice to play hockey with "The Great One" at the Pacific Coliseum. From there, they lunched with the hockey superstar at the exclusive Il Giardino restaurant in preparation for afternoon events.

"I'm very proud to be associated with SportsFunder. This is a great opportunity to support amateur sports in B.C. and it was terrific to spend the day with the winners and their guests," added Wayne Gretzky.

After lunch, the winners went head-to-head with Gretzky on the bowling lanes before attending a VIP reception at the Pan Pacific Hotel. The day concluded with the winners watching the Vancouver vs. Coyotes game from a luxury suite at General Motors Place. Additionally, the winners received $2010 and autographed memorabilia.

"The whole day has been super and so much more than I had hoped for! Gretzky is such a down-to-earth man and it's been a pleasure to spend the day with him. My grandson was thrilled to meet his hero," said winner Ernestine Malyk from Creston.

SportsFunder was developed in celebration of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Proceeds from SportsFunder lottery games will be distributed by the provincial government to directly support: Sport BC's KidSport™ program providing sport registration grants to financially disadvantaged children; Team BC, providing support for high-performance B.C. athletes; Coach and Leadership Development to provide educational and certification opportunities for coaches; and Youth Travel Assistance for B.C. athletes to access training facilities and sporting competitions.
