Media Release/British Columbia Lottery Corporation: Chances Cowichan Offers New Entertainment Options

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - March 2, 2007) - Today, bingo fans joined in the celebrations marking the official opening of the new entertainment facility Chances Cowichan. The facility was opened by representatives of British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), Duncan Dabber Bingo Society (DDBS) and Cowichan Tribes.

"This facility is one example of how BC Lottery Corporation works with communities to provide venues with great entertainment choices," said Marsha Walden, BCLC's Vice-President, Bingo Gaming.

Located at 436 Cowichan Way, this new 16,500 square foot facility offers state-of-the-art bingo, including 90 touch screen bingo terminals and traditional paper bingo, plus 74 slot machines, one electronic community game, lottery products, and food and beverage service. The bingo area contains a designated smoking and non-smoking section while the remainder of the facility is smoke-free.

"After many years of providing bingo, Duncan Dabber Bingo Society looks forward to welcoming existing and new bingo players to this exciting new facility," said Dave Clark, Vice-President of DDBS. "Bingo players are invited to experience the fun from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., seven days a week."

Chances Cowichan was made possible by a joint venture between DDBS and Cowichan Tribes. Tribes built the facility and are leasing it to DDBS, who are the service providers to BCLC providing day-to-day operational services.

Gaming in B.C. supports nearly 6,000 charitable and community organizations throughout the province. Last year, about 70 charitable and community organizations in the Duncan area received almost $1.7 million in community gaming grants, including $753,000 in direct access grants and $892,000 in bingo affiliation grants.

BCLC is committed to revitalizing B.C.'s commercial bingo industry in a socially responsible manner by offering an exciting entertainment experience in first-class facilities.

BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation reporting to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through a Board of Directors. Its mission is to offer responsible gaming entertainment, generating income for the public good.
