Media Release/British Columbia Lottery Corporation: Is there a Homegrown Hero in Your Town

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 28, 2006) - British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is looking for photos of B.C. amateur athletes in action for the Homegrown Heroes Photo Contest. The winners of the contest will receive $500 and the winning photos will be featured on an upcoming SportsFunder Instant Win ticket.

- Entries will be judged by a panel of BCLC representatives

- Only photos of athletes over 19 years of age will be considered for this competition

The five winning photos from last summer's Homegrown Heroes Photo Contest are featured on the current $2 SportsFunder Instant Win tickets available at lottery retailers throughout the province. The winners were: Alex Greenlay, a hockey player from Golden; Richard Peter, a wheelchair basketball player from Duncan; Audrey Erlandson, a triathlete from Comox; Becky Hartley, a softball player from Burnaby and Jonathan Redman, a snowboarder from Whistler.

SportsFunder was developed in celebration of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Proceeds from SportsFunder lottery games will be distributed by the provincial government to directly support: Sport BC's KidSport™ program providing sport registration grants to financially disadvantaged children; Team BC, providing support for high-performance B.C. athletes; Coach and Leadership Development to provide educational and certification opportunities for coaches; and Youth Travel Assistance for B.C. athletes to access training facilities and sporting competitions.
