Media Release: THURSDAY is Manitoba Day!

Larry McIntosh Wants to Remind All Manitobans That Thursday, May 12th is Our 141st Birthday!

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - May 10, 2011) -Peak of the Market hired Prairie Research to conduct a survey in March 2011 of Manitobans 18 years of age and older. When 800 Manitobans where asked, "When is Manitoba Day?" only 24, or 3%, knew Manitoba Day is May 12th.

The Manitoba Act, which created the province of Manitoba, received Royal Assent on May 12, 1870 making it Canada's fifth province.

Manitoba's official flag was dedicated and raised for the first time on May 12, 1966.

Due to the importance of May 12th in Manitoba's history, in 1986, the Government of Manitoba designated May 12th as Manitoba Day.

"For 25 years we have been celebrating Manitoba Day yet only 3% of Manitobans surveyed knew when it was." Larry McIntosh said. "I realize Manitoba Day isn't a holiday so it isn't as well known as other days. However, Manitoba Day is meant to be a day for celebrating our great province."

"I have lived in 12 cities in 4 provinces and I know Manitoba is the place to be. Many of the victims of this spring flooding can certainly testify to the great community spirit that exists in this province," McIntosh stated. "In times of need, Manitobans always come together to help one another."

From 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12th, Larry McIntosh and some of his co-workers will be installing a free Manitoba car flag to the first 400 cars to pull into the Peak of the Market parking lot at 1200 King Edward Street at Dublin in Winnipeg.

"On May 12th, let's celebrate how proud we are to be Manitobans," said McIntosh. "If you happen to be in the area Thursday morning come in on the Manitoba car flag drive-thru at Peak of the Market and show your Manitoba pride."

So don't forget…Thursday, May 12th is Manitoba's 141st birthday!! Happy Birthday Manitoba!
