Media Release: Vancouver Elementary Teachers to Stop Picketing Daycares Beginning Friday

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 13, 2005) - As of Friday, October 14th, 2005, the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association (VESTA) will no longer be picketing daycares on Vancouver School Board sites.

The decision was made Wednesday evening by the VESTA executive, and members are being informed on the picket line today.

The decision is consistent with what has been happening with BCTF locals in other districts.

"Parents have been wonderfully supportive of teachers, and we are glad that we are able to accommodate some of their needs in this way," says Mary McDermott, VESTA President. "We hope that parents will continue to call MLAs, the Minister of Education, and the Minister of Labour urging them to meet with teachers and resolve this dispute."
