Media Release: Vancouver Teachers to Vote at Nat Bailey Stadium on Sunday

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 22, 2005) - Up to 3500 Vancouver teachers are expected to vote on whether or not to accept the report of facilitator Vince Ready and return to work on Monday at an Extraordinary General Meeting on Sunday at 1:00 pm at Nat Bailey Stadium. BCTF President Jinny Sims will address members of the Vancouver Elementary Schools Teachers' Association (VESTA) and the Vancouver Secondary Teachers' Association (VSTA) followed by what is expected to be extensive debate and discussion. Voting will take place at the meeting beginning at approximately 2:30 pm.

VSTA President Bill Bargeman urged all Vancouver teachers to attend this crucial meeting, "What is most important at this moment is for teachers to participate in this democratic opportunity to listen to and participate in this critical debate and to vote. The BCTF is a profoundly democratic organization and this meeting demonstrates that commitment to democratic process."
