Media Statement

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - June 5, 2006) - CN was served today with one charge under the province of Alberta's Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act in connection with the derailment near Wabamun, Alberta, on August 3, 2005.

CN remains fully committed to the cleanup and remediation of the lake. Major cleanup activities are expected to be complete by the end of June 2006. CN response crews will remain available through the summer, to deal with any oil that appears on the shoreline. Monitoring and testing will take place as long as needed. CN notes that its remediation efforts are succeeding, as shown by Capital Health's declaration that the lake is safe for swimming and other recreational uses, as well as Alberta Environment's removal of its no-boating restriction.

As this matter is now before the courts, CN will have no further comment at this time.
