MediaPlatform Releases Industry's First Multicast Player Leveraging Adobe Flash Media Server 4 Software

WebCaster Software to Deliver Enterprise Video With Multicast Support to End Users

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - September 9, 2010) - MediaPlatform, the webcasting software and media management platform provider, today announced its WebCaster product is the first enterprise webcasting software enabled with multicasting video to the Adobe® Flash Platform using the new Adobe Flash Media Server 4 software, also announced today. WebCaster now features a multicast player, built using Open Source Media Framework (OSMF). The browser-based video player allows an organization to stream video using both IP Multicast and Application-Level Multicast using Flash Player 10.1, a process that results in radical improvements in network efficiency -- and lower costs -- compared to traditional streaming techniques. MediaPlatform worked closely with the Adobe Flash Media Server team actively testing the product throughout the server development.

"As enterprises increasingly look to video to drive effective communication and collaboration, they need solutions that minimize costs and increase network efficiencies," said Ashley Still, group product manager Flash Media Distribution, Adobe. "Adobe Flash Media Server 4, coupled with the Open Source Media Framework, supports this increasing appetite for video without requiring costly network upgrades, constantly expanding media server infrastructure or extensive video player development. A big part of achieving this objective comes from close collaboration with our enterprise video ecosystem. MediaPlatform's team did a fantastic job leveraging our technology and delivering a multicast solution that makes more corporate video possible at a lower cost."

With Adobe Flash Media Server 4, video delivered via Flash technology can now multicast in the enterprise, a process whereby a single video stream can be shared throughout a network supporting higher quality with greater efficiency in network utilization. Before today, even the best multicast offerings could not reach every point on a network. Adobe Flash Media Server 4, which adds not only IP multicast but also a new peer-assisted networking capability, assures a much larger percentage multicast penetration in the enterprise without requiring a large infrastructure investment, a huge leap forward in network efficiency for video.

Robust Enterprise Solution Ready To Go
MediaPlatform worked with Adobe on extensive enterprise-level testing of Adobe Flash Media Server 4 and the new multicast functionality using the OSMF. MediaPlatform is now able to multicast live video worldwide with limited infrastructure changes and no additional edge caching devices or application acceleration solutions to help enterprises increase the quality of video without the negative network impact. Prior to Adobe Flash Media Server 4, enterprise customers were limited to lower quality and limited reach on their network even with an existing IP multicast infrastructure.

"As our testing proved, multicast with Adobe Flash technology is a game changer in enterprise video," said Jim McGovern, chief executive officer, MediaPlatform. "From a business perspective, WebCaster enables companies to keep up with growing video and rich media usage while avoiding, or even cutting, network infrastructure and bandwidth costs. WebCaster and the Adobe Flash Platform offer many other benefits, in addition to multicasting, that suggest they are destined to be the future of video and rich media communications within the enterprise."

MediaPlatform is offering qualified users a free test of multicast on the Adobe Flash Platform within their enterprise that can be conducted in less than one hour. For more information, go to http://info.mediaplatform.com/flash-multicasting-with-webcaster-a/.
