MediaSpan Introduces New Web Products and Ad Network for Local Newspapers

Will Help Newspapers Gain New Online Revenue With Content Management, Podcasting and Streaming Tools; Newspapers Join Integrated Ad Network of 1,100+ Local Sites

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 20, 2006 -- MediaSpan (www.mediaspangroup.com), the leading provider of digital content management, online marketing and national advertising solutions for over 4,000 local media properties, announced today that it has introduced a new suite of web management tools tailored to meet the growing multimedia demands of local newspapers. Additionally, MediaSpan announced that it is expanding its current advertising network of over 1,100 local radio and television stations in nearly 300 U.S. markets, to include newspapers for the first time.

Based on its successful suite of BITS modules developed and sold by MediaSpan's Media Software unit (Harris & Baseview) since 2001, this is the first major product launch from the recent merger of MediaSpan's online newspaper division (Harris & Baseview BITS) and its online radio group (First MediaWorks) into the MediaSpan Online Services unit. MediaSpan Online Services (www.mediaspanonline.com) currently provides web management solutions for over 1,500 local radio and television stations and nearly 100 newspapers.

"It's all about delivering solutions for local publishers that allow them to ride the wave of disruptive technology to grow their audience and revenue online. MediaSpan is the only end-to-end solution provider that can help a local newspaper edit, market and deliver their paper, seamlessly transfer their content and classifieds online, wirelessly, and in podcast format, and help to monetize their ad inventory through a national ad network," says Dr. F.R (Frank) Campagnoni, MediaSpan's CEO.

"Over 100 years of experience working with newspapers has given us a unique perspective that other online service providers just can't match. We understand where newspapers have been, where they want to go, and what they need to take them there. Our 2,800 current newspaper software customers are a testament to our understanding and commitment to local publishers," adds Dr. Campagnoni.

The new suite of tools allows for easy online content management and integration with current back-end publishing systems and features components such as podcasting, streaming and online classifieds that will allow newspapers to aggressively compete against well established online rivals. National revenue opportunities through the MediaSpan Network are available to all newspapers, whether or not they use the new MediaSpan tools.

"Including newspapers in our local ad network creates higher value for both advertisers and publishers. We are bringing publishers previously non-attainable national revenue and in return helping National advertisers reach targeted demos by daypart and context in specific markets across multiple local media types," says MediaSpan CMO Mark Zagorski. "We can deliver the audience scale of the portals, but with local targetability and ad customization on a market-by-market, regional or national basis."

The MediaSpan Network (www.mediaspannetwork.com) includes over 1,100 local media sites in nearly 300 U.S. markets, including 60 properties in the top 10 markets. MediaSpan recently announced the availability of audio streaming inventory as part of its partnership with streaming pioneer EonStreams who works with 5 radio groups and more than 400 stations. Together the two companies work with stations that reach over 75% of US HH.

"As the largest ad network of local radio station websites, it was a natural progression for MediaSpan to begin to open up the network to the 2,800 newspapers that we work with in our Online Services and Media Software Units," says Mr. Zagorski. "Whether it is audio streaming, podcasting or online display ads, our goal is to deliver new national revenue to our customers and the highest ROI for our advertisers."

MediaSpan will present its new suite of services and ad network for newspapers in Booth 201 at the Newspaper Association of America Marketing Conference, Feb 19-22 in Orlando, Florida.
