Medicare Supplement Insurance Policies May Include Added No-Cost Benefits

Overlooked Value Added Benefits Can Be Worth Thousands To Seniors Reports American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - May 15, 2017) - Available no-cost value added benefits included with some Medicare Supplement insurance can save seniors thousands of dollars yearly according to a leading Medicare insurance expert.

"Some Medigap policies now include value added programs that offer enormous value," explains Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (AAMSI). "From free access to gyms and fitness centers to discounts on hearing aids, eye exams and eye wear, seniors miss out when they don't ask about extra benefits included with Medicare Supplement insurance policies."

Over 3.5 million Americans turn 65 yearly and become eligible for Medicare according to AAMSI. Some 13.1 million individuals have a Medicare Supplement insurance policy (also known as Medigap). "The value added programs are not offered by every insurance company but they are definitely worth asking about," Slome recommends.

The national Med Supp organization hosts the nation's leading online directory enabling consumers to find and connect with local Medicare Supplement agents. "One of the most important decisions made at age 65 is choosing a Medicare Supplement plan and insurance company," Slome shares. "We believe an educated consumer is best equipped to make this decision which can have a financial impact for many years."

"Free access to local gyms, fitness centers and YMCAs can easily save $100-to-$300 monthly," says Slome. "Swim at one place in the morning, then take a fitness class at another gym in the afternoon. All for free simply because of the value added benefit included with your Medigap policy."

At age 65 about one out of three seniors has some hearing loss according to industry reports. "Hearing aids can easily cost $2,000 (each) plus the cost of exams and batteries," Slome points out. "A hearing care discount program included with certain Medigap policies includes free screenings, discounts of 20-to-40 percent on hearing devices and even no-cost batteries for a year."

Tips For Selecting Medigap Plans

"Medicare Supplement plans are uniform in terms of what they cover but prices can vary as can any value added benefits offered," Slome explains. "There are significant ways to secure Medicare Supplement savings and if that's important to you, it's vital to ask the right questions before you apply." Slome recommends spending an hour with one or more Medicare insurance professionals. "Some agents represent or sell policies only from one company while others can represent multiple insurers," he explains.

Asking about value added programs is one suggestion Slome shares with consumers considering their Medicare insurance options. "Married couples should ask about available household discounts, even if both spouses are not yet on Medicare," he adds. "And, while the current premium or cost is important, so is the company's history of rate increases."

To learn more and to request Medicare Supplement quotes from local agents access the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance's online directory of agents at The Zip-Code directory is free and no information is required to view the listing of agents.
