Medicity's Health Information Exchange Solution for Hospitals Receives Federal Certification for Meaningful Use

Hospitals Can Now Adopt This Technology to Meet Meaningful Use Requirements and Qualify for Federal Stimulus Funds

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - Jun 21, 2011) - Medicity, a leading health information exchange (HIE) vendor, announced today that its ProAccess(R) technology for hospitals, health systems and health information organizations has received federal certification for Meaningful Use. ProAccess offers health care providers a single point of access to comprehensive patient health information -- regardless of where the information was originally collected -- through an easy-to-use and highly secure web-based clinical application. By using ProAccess, hospitals gain HIE functionality that enables them to qualify for Meaningful Use funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). ARRA requires health care providers to use certified electronic health record (EHR) technology to demonstrate improved quality of care.

The Drummond Group, an organization authorized by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to test and certify EHR technology, determined that ProAccess software complies with 2011/2012 federal criteria. Established by HHS, the criteria require that certified technology allow health care providers to electronically capture and share patient health information.

"Our solution supplements a hospital's existing technology with critical elements necessary to meet Meaningful Use requirements," explained Brent Dover, President of Medicity. "Hospitals generally have health information systems in place that satisfy a large portion of Meaningful Use, but these systems often do not allow for easy sharing of patient data between physicians, which can hinder their ability to coordinate care or identify trends across a patient population. We offer secure exchange functionality such as public health reporting and exchange of patient summary documents that most inpatient systems do not."

Medicity's areas of certification include security; submission to immunization registries; public health surveillance; and the ability to import, export, and exchange patient summary documents. (See a complete list of the specific certification criteria met by ProAccess.)

"This certification ensures that hospitals and health systems can incorporate our software as part of a comprehensive inpatient EHR necessary to qualify for ARRA financial incentives," said Dover. "Our approach to increasing the collaborative ability of each health system will not only give rise to better, safer and more coordinated care, but also prepare health systems for the shift toward accountable care models."

In addition to the ProAccess software certification for eligible hospitals, Medicity's Meaningful Use Application Suite on its iNexx platform is already certified to enable eligible providers to coordinate care, demonstrate quality, and qualify for incentive payments.
