Medline Awarded First AORN Seal of Recognition for O.R. Pressure Ulcer Prevention Education

Unique Interactive Learning Tool Provides Staff Education to Prevent Facility-Acquired Pressure Ulcers in the Surgical Population

MUNDELEIN, IL--(Marketwire - June 12, 2009) - Medline Industries, Inc., the nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies, announced today that its interactive Pressure Ulcer Prevention for Perioperative Services educational program is among the first to be awarded a Seal of Recognition by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN).

The AORN recognition program is designed to assist healthcare professionals and consumers in selecting quality information that promotes safety and optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures. A peer group of expert perioperative practitioners reviewed Medline's education to ensure that it is in accordance with the organization's Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices.

"One of our major education initiatives in 2009 is pressure ulcer prevention," said AORN Executive Director/CEO Linda Groah, R.N., M.S.N., C.N.O.R., F.A.A.N. "Earning the Seal of Recognition communicates to our 43,000 members and the rest of the perioperative nursing community that this program is dedicated to excellence in safe patient care."

Medline's Pressure Ulcer Prevention for Perioperative Services education is an interactive CD that teaches O.R. staff patient risk assessments and strategies that can help prevent facility-acquired pressure ulcers within the surgical population. The training can be reviewed in its entirety or the clinician can review only the topics needed. RNs who successfully complete the education and exam can receive one CE credit, and can earn a second by reviewing additional information available through Medline University.

"This education was designed specifically for the O.R. -- we cover assessment and risk factors in great detail and identify the types of surgery that are at high risk," said Alecia Cooper, M.B.A., R.N., C.N.O.R., senior vice president of clinical services for Medline. "We reference AORN's updated standard on positioning, and include a variety of tools, forms and resources as well."

Medline's Pressure Ulcer Prevention for Perioperative Services education is available through two different bundle options: Medline's QuickSuite O.R. Clean Up Kit that includes the Sahara O.R. Table Sheet or by purchasing the Sahara O.R. Table Sheet along with Medline Gel Positioners and/or Pressure Redistribution O.R. Table pads.
