MedStar Health Names Ziv Gamliel, MD, FACS, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and MedStar Harbor Hospital

Joins Specialty Team at Angelos Center for Lung Diseases at MedStar Franklin Square


BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwired - Oct 14, 2014) - MedStar Health has named Ziv Gamliel, MD, FACS, a leading thoracic expert with a strong focus on minimally invasive advancements, to head thoracic surgery at both MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and MedStar Harbor Hospital. He also joins the team of lung specialists at the Angelos Center for Lung Diseases at MedStar Franklin Square, bolstering the surgery and oncology programs in the region.

Dr. Gamliel brings over 17 years of experience treating patients with a range of diseases of the chest, including the lungs, trachea, esophagus, chest wall and heart.

Specializing in the most advanced minimally invasive approaches, Dr. Gamliel is an expert in treating an array of complex thoracic conditions, including thoracic cancers. He'll provided leadership to the thoracic teams at MedStar Franklin Square and MedStar Harbor, and will work with the surgical, medical and radiation oncology specialists at both hospitals to enhance the multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care for patients in the Baltimore region.

At the Angelos Center, which opened October 6, Dr. Gamliel will facilitate close collaboration across the transdisciplinary team of pulmonologists, interventional pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonary nurses, a lung nurse navigator, respiratory therapists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and other specialists.

Dr. Gamliel attended medical school at the University of Toronto, where he also completed an internship and residencies in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. He then went on to accomplish a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship in Lung Transplantation at the University of Toronto.

He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. He has received numerous awards and honors, has participated in national research activities and has written multiple book chapters, abstracts and journal articles.
