MedStar Orthopaedics Advances Care for Pediatric Patients, Welcomes Expert Surgeon Andrew Abramowitz, MD, to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center


BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwired - Jul 17, 2014) - MedStar Orthopaedics has expanded the range of orthopaedic services offered to children from birth through adolescence, welcoming Andrew Abramowitz, MD, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in pediatric orthopaedics, to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.

Practicing as a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon for over 13 years, Dr. Abramowitz is an expert in all aspects of musculoskeletal problems common to children and adolescents. He specializes in routine conditions such as hip dysplasia, clubfeet, in-toeing, out-toeing, flatfeet, bowlegs, knock-knees, Perthes disease, slipped epiphysis, fractures and sports injuries. In addition, he has advanced expertise in the treatment of neuromuscular conditions with spasticity such as cerebral palsy, stroke, and traumatic brain injuries as well as limb lengthening and deformity.

After receiving his medical degree from Boston University, Dr. Abramowitz served his residency at the Boston University Medical Center and Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, Mass. He completed a Pediatric Orthopaedic fellowship at the Gillette Children's Hospital and the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minnesota. He also completed a fellowship in Limb Lengthening and Deformity at the Minnesota Limb Length Center.

His extensive clinical experience includes working at the Nemours Children's Clinic in Orlando, Fla., and the Shriners Hospital for Children in Shreveport, La., where he served as the assistant director of the gait lab.

Dr. Abramowitz is a member of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He currently teaches orthopaedic surgery residents from the University of Maryland and pediatric residents from The Johns Hopkins University.

He will be seeing patients at his practice, MedStar Pediatric Orthopaedics, located on the MedStar Franklin Square campus at 9103 Franklin Square Drive, Suite 1500, Baltimore, MD 21237; and in Mount Airy at 1502 South Main Street, Suite 307, Mount Airy, MD 21771.
