Megadyne's Pediatric Mega Soft(R) Return Electrode Gets New Kid-Friendly Look

DRAPER, UT--(Marketwire - Nov 7, 2011) - A new color scheme and cavalcade of whimsical characters are featured on the newly redesigned Mega Soft® Pediatric Patient Return Electrode. The idea for this new look is to provide a familiar and friendly atmosphere in the O.R. for young patients.

The Mega Soft "PedPad," currently used in 114 hospitals around the globe, uses the same efficient technology used in the adult-sized version of the return electrode pad but is specifically designed and sized for patients ranging in weight from 350 grams to 50 pounds.

A benefit of the Mega Soft compared to small sticky pads is the patient is simply placed on the pad prior to surgery, there are no adhesives used on the skin. Placing and removing adhesive sticky pads is particularly challenging with neonates and premature infants due to their very fragile skin, small surface area and lack of adequate sites where a traditional electrode can be safely affixed. The PedPad eliminates this concern and because the pediatric Mega Soft is made from the same visco-elastic Akton polymer as Megadyne's original return electrode, infant's skin is further protected from the risk of skin breakdown and pressure ulcers.

Additional benefits of the Pediatric Mega Soft:

  • Sized to fit an O.R. table, bassinet or isolette.
  • Compatible with most isolated electrosurgical generators
  • Radiolucent and latex-free
  • Environmentally friendly-eliminates the waste of the disposable "sticky" pad.
  • Hold harmless guarantee against pad site burns.

"With more than 40 million Mega Soft-assisted procedures with zero pad-site burns, patient safety remains a top delivery priority. However, we also identified an opportunity to provide a product that would also add a level of physical and visual comfort for our smallest users," said Melissa Fischer, RN, MSN, CNOR, Clinical Specialist and Marketing Product Manager at Megadyne. "The introduction of this kid-friendly look is the result of merging safe technology with soothing design."
