Mel B Capitalises on International Fitness Week 2011 with London Launch

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - Former Spice Girl Mel B was in London this week to officially launch International Fitness Week which gets underway on Monday March 14.

For the third year running Mel B is the face of the week which is dedicated to inspiring people across the world to become more active and lead a healthier lifestyle.

The launch, at Old Spitalfields Market, was marked with a workout to Mel's own group exercise class Get Fit with Mel B, one of the most popular classes of its kind in the UK.

Mel B is an enthusiastic ambassador for the week and now heads to Singapore and Malaysia to launch the week to an international audience.

"We've really made some fabulous progress over the last few years encouraging more people to find something they like and make exercise part of their everyday life," said Mel. "I'm proud to be a part of it and everything it stands for."

The week runs from March 14th-20th and is powered by Fitness First, the world's largest gym group, which opens its doors for the week for anyone to sample the clubs and learn more about improving their health and fitness.

There are days dedicated to everything from group exercise classes to health days where experts will give you a three point health check and a sport day where you can learn more about training for events.

Fitness First is encouraging people who are new to exercise to take part. All people need to do is visit the website to download the free seven day pass.

Monday 14th March   Strength   Improving strength and creating a leaner body is important for everyone - take part in a strength class including Body Pump, Core or Circuits or get one of our trainers to show you one or two exercises
Tuesday 15th March   Group exercise   Bring your friends along and have some fun together while getting fitter. Take part in group personal training session or one of the group exercise classes on offer. There will also be a world record Spin attempt at 6pm.
Wednesday 16th March   Shape   We will be focusing on body shape and how you can sculpt and tone your body using some of the latest innovative techniques.
Thursday 17th March   Health   Try some of our programmes or workouts aimed at improving your health, be it a healthy heart, increased lung capacity or better movement and flexibility!
Friday 18th March   Sport   If you want to get fit for sport, why not try some of our bespoke training plans geared towards whatever your sporting aspirations.
Saturday 19th March   World Challenge   We will be climbing the equivalent height of the KL Twin Towers, Cycling the distance of the Tour De France, rowing the length of the River Thames or run the Length of the London Marathon – all to raise money for Asthma UK.
Sunday 20th March   Health check   Come in and have your FREE three-point health check with one of our Fitness team!

International Fitness Week

International Fitness Week runs from March 14th-20th 2011 with ex-Spice Girl Mel B as the face of the week for the third year running.

More than 400 gyms across 18 countries are opening their doors and offering everybody the opportunity to train for FREE and try something new in a bid to make the world a fitter place. There'll also be experts on hand to answer any questions you have or just to show you what's on offer.

Launched by Fitness First, the week has themed days designed to attract as many people as possible to the idea of exercising.
