Meller Sapphire Balls and Ruby Balls Offer High Wear and Heat Resistance


PROVIDENCE, RI--(Marketwired - May 7, 2013) - Meller Optics, Inc. has introduced a full line of sapphire and ruby balls that come in 42 precise small sizes and can withstand high wear and chemical resistance, and thermal and environmental shock.

Meller Sapphire and Ruby Balls feature Moh 9 hardness, are impervious to most chemicals, solvents, and detergents, and have a 2,000°C melting point. Suitable for a wide range of applications because of their durability and stability, they have surface finishes of 20-10 scratch-dig or better, and can be drilled and precision ground into plano-convex lenses, if required.

Available in 42 inch and metric sizes from 0.1mm to 0.5" dia., Meller Sapphire and Ruby Balls have a 0.2 coefficient of friction and a good refraction index of 1.76 microns at 20°C. Applications include ball check valves, scanners, ball and roller bearings, gauge, probe, and stylus tips, chemical and medical valves, and fiber optic and endoscope lens systems.
