"This year, we celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of her reign as Queen of Canada," said Minister Blaney. "Through events such as the Diamond Jubilee Service of Remembrance, our Government is continuing to recognize the courage and sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have served our country."

"By participating in candlelight tributes, our Government is engaging Canadians, and most importantly youth, in the act of remembrance," said MP Bateman. "Our Government is pleased to support commemorative events like these across the country, bringing communities together to pay tribute to our nation's truest heroes."

The event included a candlelight service and Last Post ceremony held in Brookside Cemetery's Field of Honour where participants, including cadets, currently serving Canadian Forces members, Veterans and members of the public placed more than 11,000 battery-operated candles at the base of grave markers. The event was organized jointly by the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg, with the support of Veterans Affairs Canada.
