Member of Parliament Rodney Weston Marks Veterans' Week at Candlelight Ceremony in Saint John

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - Nov. 7, 2011) - Throughout Veterans' Week, from November 5 to 11, Canadians across the country are showing how they remember and honour our Veterans. Today, on behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament for Saint John, and the residents of Ridgewood Veterans' Wing remembered our Veterans with a candlelight ceremony in Saint John.

"The men and women who have served our country gave selflessly for our freedom and one way we can repay them is by remembering their sacrifices," said Minister Blaney. "During Veterans' Week, we pay tribute to all Canadian Veterans and continue to honour those who serve our country today."

Opened in 1976, Ridgewood Veterans' Wing is a facility for Veterans from the region who require long-term care. The facility promotes Veteran Affairs Canada's goal of becoming a Centre of Excellence in the provision of care for Veterans with dementia.

"Generations of Canadians have sacrificed a great deal so we may live in peace. Battles and place names such as Vimy Ridge, Dieppe, Gapyong, Sudan, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Libya are now embedded in our collective memories," said Mr. Weston, "Our Government is dedicated to providing our Veterans with the support and care they need and so richly deserve."

This year during Veterans' Week, make remembrance more than something you feel, make it something you do. Show how you remember by attending a Remembrance Day ceremony, visiting the local cenotaph or monument, sharing your thoughts of remembrance online, or wearing a poppy with pride. This Veterans' Week, how will you remember?
