Merchant Risk Council Opens European Office in Madrid

European e-Commerce Merchants Now Have Direct Resource for Online Payment and Fraud Risk Issues

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - July 27, 2010) - The Merchant Risk Council (MRC), a merchant-led trade association focused on electronic commerce risk and payments globally, announces the opening of the MRC Europe office in Madrid, Spain.

Led by Nicolas Vedrenne, MRC Managing Director for Europe, the Madrid office connects merchants, risk management solution providers, law enforcement officials and financial institutions with specific programmes that are dedicated to making e-Commerce more efficient, safe and profitable.

"MRC Europe is a natural extension of the successful programmes the MRC has offered in North America," says Vedrenne. "On one hand, European online merchants face many of the same fraud issues, security risks and payment challenges that U.S. merchants face. On the other hand, there are many nuances between the two continents, and the MRC is adapting to best serve the specific needs of the European merchant community."

Many of these e-Commerce leaders will be gathering in Amsterdam from 1-3 September at the MRC's inaugural e-Commerce Payments and Risk Conference. The conference includes 18 unique sessions delivered by over 25 industry-leading presenters. European retailers attending this conference will learn about online payment strategies and operational best practices from other best-in-class merchants.

"MRC has a proven structure for connecting its members to other members, sharing best practices, creating essential benchmarking research and working together to improve the industry," says Belgium-based Philippe Depautex, General Manager of Sales and Operations of SonyStyle and MRC Board Advisor. "I am excited to employ their experience to create successful MRC programmes in Europe."

"This is truly a merchant-driven expansion," adds Vedrenne. "Merchants throughout Europe are very eager to begin a cross-Atlantic collaboration to better fight globally-organized online payment fraud."

The MRC European Conference, sponsored by GlobalCollect and Retail Decisions, takes place at NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in the heart of downtown Amsterdam. For conference registration details, or to receive MRC membership information, please visit the MRC's website at www.merchantriskcouncil.org.
