Mercy Health System Selects M*Modal to Deliver Cloud-Based Coding and Workflow Platform for Improved Productivity and Seamless Transition to ICD-10

FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwire - Feb 6, 2013) - M*Modal, a leading provider of clinical documentation, computer-assisted coding (CAC) and Speech Understanding™ solutions, today announced it will provide its M*Modal Fluency for Coding™ workflow platform to Mercy Health System. This cloud-based application delivers complete workflow and CAC services as well as full ICD-10 support for better productivity and accuracy in patient documentation and billing.

The new agreement enables M*Modal, currently the exclusive provider of transcription services to Mercy, to deliver Fluency for Coding across Mercy's entire network of 26 hospitals and associated clinics. Based in Chesterfield, Mo., Mercy serves hundreds of communities across the Midwest with 4,600 patient beds.

"For Mercy, quality documentation is essential in delivering the best possible patient care and getting the most out of our electronic health record," said Donna Chandler, Vice President, Receivables Management at Mercy. "M*Modal's platform offers the flexibility we need to integrate our documentation and coding workflows with computer-assisted coding. Given the complexity of the transition to ICD-10, we feel this technology is vital to our short and long term success."

The ICD-10 coding system, to be implemented in the U.S. in 2014, brings increased documentation specificity for medical records that identify diagnoses and procedures. ICD-10 will significantly expand hospitals' code base and require additional resources and expertise to implement in electronic health record systems.

M*Modal Fluency for Coding is a web-based coding application and workflow platform that is fully ICD-10 compliant. The application consolidates critical patient information in the cloud, providing easy access for coders and health information managers. Through features such as rapid review aids, alerts on incomplete documentation, and case prioritization, this software can increase productivity anywhere from 25 to 75 percent (compared to traditional methods), minimize discharged not final billed (DNFB) totals and eliminate inefficient retrospective physician queries.

"We are proud to expand our relationship with Mercy and bring clinical documentation improvements to every step of patient care delivery," said Vern Davenport, CEO of M*Modal. "Our technology and transcription services give physicians, coders and health IT managers the assurance of high-quality, comprehensive electronic records and simplified workflows for fast, reliable reimbursements."
